I need ideas on how to relieve severe muscle pain due to exercise.?

I’ve tried ice packs to no avail and then switched to a heating pad which seems to help a bit more. It feels like my leg muscles are going to rip apart. I work out on a regular basis at the gym and never had this happen before. Have a feeling it was a new Pilates exercise that I tried, called the “Swim”. Can anyone recommend something to use that would help relieve the pain factor?

Chosen Answer:

DO NOT USE HEAT!!! heat feel better because it motivates blood to rush in and out of the injured muscle… when the heat is removed it is no longer leaving the injured area and it causes pooling. after a while the liquid part of the blood leaves and youre left with the plasma, the solid part of blood. in really sever cases it can calcify and you will have bone in your muscle. use ice 20 minutes on 40 minutes off 3 times MINIMUM or it is not any help at all. after the 1st few days if there is no change see a doctor

How do i get rid of muscle pain?

Ok so i started track and Field on monday and we did hardcore running and and exercises. Now its tuesday and my legs are KILLING me. I can feel that its my muscles but it hurts really hard and if i walk fast or do anything it really hurts! I have track again tomorrow and im expected to go but i don’t know if i can do it! would i get hurt even more? Is there a way to get rid of muscle pains by tmrw morning?

Chosen Answer:

Not to my knowledge, I play football and Lax and I have experienced this basically on the start of every season. If you go to practice tomorrow, it will hurt in the beginning during warm ups and stretching but once you start running you will forget about it. but after the practice, when you stop pumping and moving your legs will be killing again due to acid building up on the muscles from a lack of oxygen. This will go on for about 3-4 days im guessing getting a bit better after each day.

Now here is what you can do or atleast what helps for me.
1)Drink as much water as you can, this helps with something and speeds up the removal of the acid
2)You can also take a very warm bath, this will suthe your muscels and relax them
3)get a good night sleep
4)drink some Gatorade during practice
5) Pop an advil a half an hour before practice this will take off the achyness and the pain
6) Stretch every moment of the day you can, especially when you wake up, If you can do some dynamic stretching
***I am no doctor, this is simply what I do and I find it to help alot!***

What Should I Do About This Muscle Pain?

I’ve recently been experiencing some aches and pains in both of my calves while walking and bending which I believe is stemming from the gastrocnemius muscles.

I work in medicine myself and know that the crouching position I often take, which puts strain on my calves, isn’t good but I need to be able to bend down!

Stetching my leg completely straight sends a “dead leg” feeling or small spasm down my calves, especially the right one which is considerably more painful.

Should I see a doctor/what treatment would you recommend? Please advise.

Chosen Answer:

I have gone to see an MD for similar stuff and they usually just prescribe pills (muscle relaxants or steroids) or some good ones might send you to a physical therapist…

On the other hand, if you go see good chiropractor, your problem may be gone as little as one visit.

Either way, it seems like part of the healing process might involve giving yourself a rest from what is causing it.

Muscle cramps are also caused by dehydration. Eating bananas and drinking lots of water might help with this. Supplements like Chromium picolinate, MSM, and hylaluronic acid may also be helpful.

how do i get rid of muscle pain in the legs?

mmkay wel i have soccer training all this week( July 30-Aug 5) and my legs have many many pulled muscles in the legs (quad, hamstring, calves, etc.) So what i need to know is if there is any quick treatment i can do to get rid of this pain?

answer quckly…that would be nice :D

Chosen Answer:

Well first you need to know if your legs are just sore from overexersion or if you really have a pulled muscle. A pulled muscle is very painful and sometimes requires medical attention. You would need to not put too much strain on it.

On the other hand, sore muscles are caused by a build up of lactic acid from heavy exercise. If you are just sore, be sure the next day you do some kind of physical activity to reduce the lactic acid or you will be hella sore day 2.

Some things to try: heating pad or ice pack. I hate being cold so I prefer the heating pad. A rub like Icy hot or bengay messaged in works well. Drink lots of water. Pain relievers are helpful. And finally remember- No pain, no gain.

What non-medical things causes muscle pain?

I was just wondering , because I am a teenager, and i have very tender arm muscles, i do work out, but in moderation, and i have been for a long time, but this pain is new. I do go 4-wheeling often , and now that it is winter the ground is solid and it is alot more bumpy. Since it is bumby the handle bars vibrate and bounce alot more, could this be the cause?

Chosen Answer:

I think that is what is kicking your problem up a notch for you, those vibrations can be hell. Here is how you can release the muscles in your back which should help in the upper area for there might be some trapped there that you don’t know about yet:
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.
For your arms below the shoulder press on the muscles that are tender with a good amount of pressure and hold. Now relax your arm and body, let everything go so your arm is very relaxed for this. After 30 seconds slowly raise your arm as high as you can, release the pressure but hold your arm there for another 30 seconds.

What should i do to help Muscle Pain in arm.?

I have slight muscle pain on the upper arm/shoulder area on my left. If anyone has any suggestions about stretches, wraps, or anything i can do to make it go away please tell me! i am in swim so i have to deal with it every day.

Chosen Answer:

If Douglas B stops by with an answer, listen to him. He deals with muscle issues very well. In the meantime, have you tried an analgesic rub, like Ben Gay. It takes care of most innocuous muscle problems.

Can I take Prescription medication before a Fluoroscopy?

Im getting a Fluoroscopy done for IBS and and am prescribed (not for the procedure, for years before), Xanax and Soma, (alprazolam and carisoprodol, respectively).

The fluoroscopy prep indicates nothing by mouth for 12 hours before the procedure, and both these medications wear off well before 12 hours, so will it mess up the Fluoroscopy if I take my medicine 45 minutes before the procedure so I will be feeling my anti-anxiety and pain medication and not have to endure the medical procedure in panic and pain? Or should I crush up the pills so they won’t show up on the Fluoroscopy X-ray Machine? Don’t worry both medications are not time released so crushing them up is not dangerous, and I am VERY experienced and tolerant to both anxiety and pain medication

I plan on taking 2mg Xanax with 1050mg Soma 45 minutes before my fluoroscopy tomorrow morning. Both medications have the best bioavailability via the oral route, so other ROA’s aren’t an option.

Anyone with experience with a fluoroscopy, IBS, and hopefully similar situations please share.
Also on a side note, is it too much radiation for this continuous x-ray imaging procedure to be dangerous?
