Silly me did the splits without stretching or warming up. Right then and there the muscle right below my glut on my right leg had severe pain. It hurt to walk. It’s about 3 days after and it is still sore when I stretch and even attempt to do anything like the splits. Please help me with treatment and an idea of when it will be better. Thanks!

I think you are referring to your hamstring. You are talking about the back of your leg correct? It sounds like a hamstring pull. Rest it and apply heat. Take a pain reliever. Do light stretches. Sit on the floor with your legs out straight and reach towards your toes. Don’t stretch too much, just enough to keep it loose. It will probably hurt for a few days, but will feel better with each day. If it doesn’t feel better within a week go to a doctor, it could be a tear and not a pull.

You need to stop doing anything right now and let that muscle heal. If you keep aggrivating by trying to do the splits it will never heal. Use heat and ice on it alternately and take ibuprofen for the pain or naproxen and use a pain relief cream.

DON’T DO ANYTHING ELSE RIGHT NOW TO AGGRAVATE IT -STOP! Apply heat packs every 1/2 hr for 10 minutes for 3 days ; then use ice to sooth the muscles. Take a magnesium supplement along with a calcium supplement before bedtime (after dinner) –works on restoring & strengthing muscles while you sleep . If you tear or strain a ligament & or a muscle, it has to heal before you do serious damage to it. I damaged my hamstring while doing therapy for the other leg after surgery over 10 years ago & if I really overdo it, the hamstring pain will come back. I can even press the spot with my hand & feel the soreness in the back of my thigh.
