Are there any good creams that work sold over the counter for arthritis and muscle pain?

I can’t take any nsaids to help relieve the pain for inflamation and arthritis. Because of my medications I already take, I was trying to find a external cream that might help.

Chosen Answer:

I am cursed with arthritis in my knees at a young age (im 23). I personally like Icy Hot. Walmart has an equate brand that is half the price that I use. It’s the same active ingredients. The only downside to creams is that they don’t last for more than an hour… two at the most. Also, a word of advice… never use them when you have just gotten out of the pool/shower. They work by reacting with the oxygen in the air and when you’re wet it must speed up that reaction or something because it burns really bad.

What has helped my knees is a good electric massager. Get the kind that plugs in so you don’t have to buy batteries. I’ve actually had arthritis since I was 17, and it used to be my mom, but now my wife that will massage the backs of my knees while I lay on my stomach. It helps me a ton.

Also, you might be able to take Glucosmine Condroiten (I doubt I spelled that right) with the medicines you are taking. I would ask your doctor though. What it does is help your body produce more of the fluid that cushions your joints; almost like oiling a machine :)

How do you cure stress related muscle pain?

It’s my exams right now and my shoulders and back are killing me! What’s quick way to get rid of the pain?
Paracetamol didn’t really work and it’s too sore to massage. Help?

Chosen Answer:

Even if it is sore, massage is one of the best treatments. First have a hot shower which will help relax the muscles and then follow with massage. Also do deep breathing exercises. Breathe very slowly in through your nose and out through your mouth. And go for walks – exercise will help. If you have access to a pool or hot tub or jacuzzi, use those.

Are there any tips on relieving extreme muscle pain after a workout?

I strength train with a personal trainer once a week and per my request, she kicks my buttootie. I’ve been VERY sore for 2 days now and have even had a hard time walking. Any pain reliever tips?
I LIKE to feel sore, but not this sore…
I usually take hot baths with soothing salts that work REALLY well, but only for about 15 minutes after my bath. Maybe I need a hot tub…

The best tip for relieving muscle pain after a workout is probably the first thing that you wouldn’t think of…..

Work out again.

The reason your muscles feel sore after a workout is the build up of lactic acid in your muscles and the best way to get rid of that lactic acid is to work those same muscles again as soon as possible.

If you were to do the obvious and take a few days off until the soreness wears off, you would be doing yourself a disservice, letting the lactic acid sit in your muscles and continue your soreness longer than it needs to. In actuality you should work out again as soon as possible, which will acclimate your muscles to the work and reduce the amount of lactic acid that your muscles produce in response to tearing and breakdown.

I know it sounds counter-productive, but this honestly is the best remedy. After a few days of working out, you will feel amazing after a long workout.

Why dont I feel muscle pain anymore?

I have been lifting for a couple of months. When I bench and do triceps exercises, my chest and triceps would hurt. Now my chest doesn’t hurt any more. I’ve been changing my routine and doing it on different days but theres no change. Also, I try my best to do proper bicep exercises but my bicep never hurts when i work it out. I take pain as a sign of hypertrophy and therefore muscle growth. Can someone explain What is goin on and what I should Do?

Chosen Answer:

yes you are correct, muscle pain for the next few days after a workout is a good sign. what you need to do is change up your routine. meaning one day do light weight but a lot of reps then on the next workout day do heavy weights with low reps. alternate with both your tris/chest and alternate with your bi’s as well. and change what type of exercises you do too…hope that helps

What foods, supplements or techniques can you recommend to reduce muscle pain after extensive exercise?

I have a fitness assessment in three weeks that I want to be ready for and to do so I have been swimming or running multiple kms every day. Due to my sedentary nature {books not exercise} I’m in rather a lot of pain. Anything you can suggest to reduce the pain would be appreciated. I heard those protein supplements can do that but I wasn’t sure.
Thanks for the help.

Chosen Answer:

hello It is important to recover with supplements after working out/cardio.

Particularly increasing your sugars for your body to replenish lost energy. I recommend that you take a recovery drink, (high simple sugar content) I usually knock back some dextrose powder in water. A protein shake is good too, especially a high energy protein bar.

amio acid tablets are good too.
They stimulate muscle protein synthesis, provides fuel for the muscle and helps to maintain blood glucose. leucine is great. Try some protein shake an hour before work out too!

after pain, if it is really bad could used some topical cream, like volterol or deep heat.

What could be causing this joint and muscle pain?

I’m having these pretty awful stabbing pains in my joints (shoulders and hips) and arms and legs, to the point where I’m ready to go to sleep now to avoid feeling this pain. The pain is worse when I feel cold.

I have mild spina bifida from birth, although it’s never caused any significant symptoms, could this be related to it?

Chosen Answer:

You need to see your neurologist or neurosurgeon. It could be tether cord.

What is the best treatment for fibromyalgia with joint and muscle pain?

I’ve been diagnosed with it and also have osteoarthritis in my hip. So I need a second hip replacement soon. I’m in a lot of pain and all I’m taking is low dose Prednisone, Motrin and Tylenol.

Chosen Answer:

prednisone won’t do anything for FMS–there is no inflammation

the best treatment is to educate yourself….

fms is highly over diagnosed by idiot docs who have no clue and can’t be bothered to educate themselves…..most people diagnosed with fms actually have something else–some aren’t sick at all…

doctors just want to give the easy answer to get their paychecks and support their upper middle class lifestyle with expensive homes, cars, trips, jewelry, etc

fms is not a label for unexplained pain–it is a specific neuro condition

the first line treatments for FMS are SNRI meds like Savella and antiseizure meds like Lyrica…if you doc didn’t suggest that–he’s worse than an idiot

real fms is a nerve conditoin–i don’t know why you would do myofacial release

as there is NO INflammtion—NSAIDS shouldn’t be prescribed for inflammation–although they can be used for pain in general…this goes for celebrex—-if you are taking an anti inflammatory and get better there is a good chance you don’t have fms, but rather something else
