Laparoscopic appendectomy- constipation.?

My appendix ruptured and had to have an emergentcy laparoscopic appendectomy Tuesday afternoon. I was release from hospital Friday evening without having had a bowel movement. Since Friday, Saturday morning I passed a very small amount of poo and yesterday I passed a very small amount if poo. The doctors told me to eat normally since I could tolerate food but I’ve eaten at least three full meals in addition to pudding cups, applesauce and cup of noodles and still have not gone #2 very much. I’m afraid I’m going to start throwing up if i don’t dedicate soon.
I’m taking:
Oxycodone 15mg 4 or 5 times a day
Doc Q Lace 100mg 2 times a day
Carisoprodol 350mg 3 or 4 times a day
Amoxicillin. 875mg 2 times a day
Naproxen. 500mg twice a day

Anyone ad similar problems or know what I can do/eat to help it along?

Chosen Answer:

Well…the oxycods don’t help. Neither does the Carisprodol. Not going very much is better than none. If you STOP going altogether, then we can see the doctor again. Your body is messed up, not only from the infection, but also the surgery and meds. Give it a few more days. A little more fiber in your current diet to help you go. Metamucil is a great help for this.

can my pharmacist deny my Soma (as needed) if I am already prescribed Valium(Diazepam)?

I live in Pennsylvania and my insurance approved the Valium (Diazepam) 10mg 2 times a day if needed for anxiety. As well as the Soma (Carisoprodol) which is 350mg 3 times a day if needed for muscle spasms. The pharmacist, who already dispensed it made me aware of the interaction between the two, which i was already well aware of, I have been going to this pharmacy for 5 years and never had a problem.
Valium was from PSYCH.
Soma was from PCP (personal care phys)

Chosen Answer:

I’d question these two medications being used at the same time and for 5 years..
Soma alone is banned in some countries – as it potentiates the effect of other medications.and has abuse potential as Diazepam does without question.
Being on both can make it more likely you will have very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms on not taking them.
As people get older, both these medications can need frequent reviews of dosage
Diazepam is already a very efficient muscle relaxant, but if you have been on 20mg for 5 years daily, i’d expect there to be some tolerance and possible addiction.
Does the personal Physician know about the Diazepam and the Psych know about the Carisoprodol, if not I’d run this past them both?

Yes a Pharmacist can refuse to dispense any medication combination that they see or feel could cause problems without giving any explanation than a refusal to dispense, whereas the next Pharmacist may not have an issue with it..
Most will explain in a brief fashion why they have made such a judgement call.though.

It does seem,to me,a strange combination -and the Diazepam to have been prescribed for so long also would make me extra cautious.

What would the symptoms be as a over dose.If I took them all at wonce would it kill me quike.?

Don’t tell me not to do it. I have no life and no one to live for.
100 Lotrel 10/20mg?
100 Bisoprl/HCTZ 5/6.25mg?
100 Tricor 145mg?
100 Fluoxetine 20mg?
30/100 Carisoprodol 350mg?
60/100 Hydrocodone 5/500mg?
All the above all at ones?

Chosen Answer:

Thatll definitly kill ya, might not be too quick, your metabolism will slow down and may take a bit to end it all, with any luck enought time for someone to find you and get your stomach pumped(oh what fun) and then be committed to a psch ward where you will learn it wasnt worth doing after all. But if you succeeded in killing yourself this crappy world will stay the same cause you are not in it to help change things. DONT BE SO SELFISH!!!! Noone to live for? Seems the worlds full of people who want someone to live for, your problem is finding your life.
Finding it isnt in quitting. Find a group near you. Make a life ,after all you do have one to mold at the moment.

this question is about my friend not me ok?

Chosen Answer:

Soma is recommended for 2-3 weeks with the maximum single dose of 350mg. The drug is metabolized by the liver and excreted through the kidney; taken in recommended dosages the drug poses no threat to the body. Soma can cause mood swings and personality changes so the changes you’re noticing in your friend can be a result of the medication. Being tired all the time can stem from taking too much of the drug which is causing a need for extra sleep she isn’t getting. Too tired, no appetite and the cycle continues.
Your friend is very fortunate to have someone like you who is concerned about her welfare. If you have the opportunity to read the label on the medication and find she isn’t following the directions, you can be an even better friend and notify the prescribing physician. While they are bound by confidentiality laws making them unable to discuss patient information with you, they should be willing to accept information concerning a client’s well-being. The information you have to share will give them the opportunity to help your friend without mentioning your name. Doing so removes you from having to have a confrontation with your friend; if the doctor doesn’t supply the prescription, she can’t take the medication. There are alternatives.

Why do I still have lower back pain? Would medical marijuana help me?

I work for a carpet business as an installer helper. The date of my injury was 12/2/2009, me and the guy I was working with had to move a piano with no straps or any sliders. Because our job requires us to move furniture, like a piano. We had to move it from a living room, to a dining room, then into a kitchen and that was the only place the piano would fit. Well we lifted it three times cause it was one heavy son of a gun and on the third time lifting it, I was hunched over the piano because i couldn’t grip right because of the doorway from the dining room to the kitchen was tight. As i lifted it into the kitchen I felt a very sharp and excruciating pain from my lower back and I went to the floor. I couldn’t get up quick, I was very slow getting to my knees and the pain was constant. On the same day, I went to workmans comp and the doctor there told me I strain my Lt SIJ on the left side of my lumbar. I had pain in the middle of my lower back and on the left side, I went to PT (physical therapy) and I received two shots of cortizone in my lower back in the months of December and January. Those shots didn’t help, then he decides to give me an MRI and x-ray, he claims there is nothing wrong and its just back spams and I need to ice/heat my back with skin protection. Well in the month of February the workmans comp doctor referred me to a metro spine and rehab doctor. He looks at the x-rays and MRI and says I have a bulge in my disk and I have arthritis. There I received two more shots of cortizone and the results were nothing, He tells me to go to a different PT and thats where I have been for about two months (March and April). Then he prescribes me the following medication: Nabumetone 500mg, Carisoprodol 350mg, Tramadol 50mg, and Oxaprozin 600mg. None of these work, I only take Tramadol when I go to sleep and the others I stopped taking due to the fact it made me drowzy and I didn’t like falling asleep. I continue to do home exercise and ice my back, I’m under restrictions of No repetitive bending, twisting, lifting, and No lifting loads exceeding 50 pounds. After my last visit which was on tuesday (5-25-2010) he tells me the MRI are negative and he doesn’t konw why I’m still hurting. Under those restrictions I can’t go back to working as a carpet installer and I have to look for another job, which I don’t know who is hiring. On Thursday I was curious about marijuana helping, So I decided to smoke a kush joint and it relieved my back pain and I could bend over without hurting and I can fall asleep more comfortable with it. Can anyone out there or whoever reads this, please give me feedback, because I’m coming more stressful and more depressed due to my back problem and I’m afraid I won’t be here much longer… thank you : – /

Painkiller Addiction: IF you’ve been there personally, or have credible knowledge of same, can you answer this?

I have a VERY good Friend, we’ll call her Sheree, 44, who has been taking Painkillers daily for over 6 months. These pills consist of mainly Hydrocodones, “Vicodin” and similar derivatives, as well as occasional “supplements” of Soma and Norcos. Sheree does indeed have some painful afflictions for which she requires these Painkillers, (Kidney Stones, Bladder Infections, Ovarian Cysts, & more.) She begins taking them when she awakens, then every 2-3 hours, throughout the day. In addition, Sheree also ingests a daily regime of Xanex & Carisoprodol pills for “anxiety” issues, in the morning and throughout the day.
When I expressed concern to Sheree that she might become addicted, she was quite adamant that she #1, was NOT addicted, and #2, would know IF she was addicted to either pill regime!
I have only recently learned that Carisoprodol is, alone and by itself, very addictive.
MY QUESTION: In your opinion, are the odds good that Sheree IS addicted to the Painkillers???
If so, what can she do about it, per a semi-painless “Detox”? She is a single mother w/3 children.

Chosen Answer:

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago, was taking loads of painkillers due to back pain and benzos for anxiety and depression its so easy to get caught out by it.. anyway she may say shes not addicted but deep down she’ll no she is. its funny wen ur given these pills by a doctor who agrees ur not well u get engulfed in ur pain and really begin to think u need the pills alot more often then u actually do! I got abnormal liver readings from routine blood tests my liver enzymes were supposed to be no more then 51ng/ml and they were 701ng/ml! it really gave me a wake up call wen i saw the damage i was doing it made me confront the issue at hand. I cut back on painkillers and benzos over the course of 3weeks and realised that without the painkillers i didnt actually have as much pain as i thought! apparently when the bodys in withdrawls it makes up pains so u feel the need to pop more! my advice to you is that instead of telling her shes adddicted (this never really helps cause wen addicted u truley beleive ur in pain and need these meds) get her to get some routine blood tests and wen she sees her liver enzymes broach the subject with her. I was only on half wat she is by ur description and only for 4months wen the damage began ive no doubt hers will show up hightened aswell

Autopsy Report – Toxicology Blood Levels?

We have the toxicology report for our 23 year old son who died of acute toxicity. The numbers are not making sense to me…they just seem far below toxic levels.

Blood (femoral)

Hydrocodone (Vicodin) – 0.20 mg/L
Carisoprodol (Soma) – 6.8 mg/L
Alprazolam (Xanax) – 0.08 mg/L
Acetaminophen – 24.0 mg/L

Stomach

Hydrocodone (Vicodin) – 7.8 mg/L
Carisoprodol (Soma) – 270 mg/L
Alprazolam (Xanax) – 4.2 mg/L
Acetaminophen – 794 mg/L

Any suggestions on how to analyze these numbers would be appreciated.

Chosen Answer:

I’m answering this from experience. I have had a very bad back since I was seven years old. Over time, I ended up in traction in the hospital at least 23 times. The doctor would order pain shots for me every four hours. I would be sent home on narcotic pain killers. Eventually, I became dependent on these pain killers. I had to go to treatment for a month to get over my dependency. The program worked. The pain’s till there but I have to handle it in other ways than pain killers.
Sheree sounds like she very well could be addicted to the drugs or at least dependent on them. All she’s doing is covering up the pain which is undoubtedly there. You’re a good friend to be so concerned. She can’t change until she recognizes that she does indeed have a problem. Be there to listen to her. Tell her about your concern and try to encourage her to see her doctor. She needs to get help before it gets worth. Good luck to both of you.

legality of buying OTC medications (OTC in mexico,) from an online mexican pharamcy, to be delivered to US?

There is a medication called carisoprodol. It is a schedule IV controlled substance in my state (GA)

I have a prescription for 90 of them each 30 days, for neck pain due to muscular pain in my neck. However, I lost the bottle of medication (I actually did, no lie.) So now I’m stuck without any of them. I don’t want to talk to have to pay for the medication without insurance, because that’s a pain in the butt (my ins. only covers a single prescription of each thing to be filled once each 30 days, so I’ll have to pay a lot for it.)

BUT! Turns out carisoprodol is legal in mexico over the counter (like advil is here in the states.) I want to know about the legality of buying it from an online pharmacy (like you can buy advil from cvs.com,) and having it shipped to my house.

Is this a problem? Is it illegal? What would the repercussions be if I were caught and it is illegal?

Can someone tell me about their experience with this sort of thing (I know people buy Viagra while in Mexico, then bring it back, but not about buying it from like cvs.mx [which doesn't exist].) Or if someone does post a response, can they add a link to something from a .gov website?

Chosen Answer:

You’d be charged just the same as any other drug smuggler. You would be obtaining restricted drugs illegally, and every cop and judge would believe that you either took too much medicine, or that you sold your medicine.

It will be cheaper to buy the medicine without insurance.
