Should I rest for a day or two if exercerise results in muscle pain?

I just started exercising again and some of my muscles are pretty sore. Should I rest until the pain subsides or should I just exercise through it?

Chosen Answer:

YES! The pain in your muscles is a result of tearing. This is exactly what you want to happen, because you get the bigger muscles after it rebuilds and heals. But if you continue to exercises through it, it can cause permanent damage

do I have gallbladder pain or muscle pain?

I have pain upon touching to the right of the belly button and pain near my hip. When I massage the tender spots, it also feels like they are swollen. Besides pain upon touching, I really have no other symptoms.
And also, I dont really have an attack of the gallbladder. Its more like the tender spots next to my belly button and hip are always tender to touch. They haven’t really subsided till now. So is it muscle strain or gallbladder pain?

Chosen Answer:

probably muscle, your gallbladder is higher, and when there’s something wrong (like passing stones) you know. The pain will be so intense you’ll want to go to the ER

Hand muscle pain while playing barre chords?

I’ve been playing for around 5 months (self taught) now and I can play barre chords clean but the muscle right down my thumb on the palm area hurts when I play a full barre chord song a minute into it. Am I doing something wrong? I checked around the internet on several sources and I seem to be doing the technique right. is it normal to have pain on that muscle? will it go away after a while, after your hand gets stronger?

Chosen Answer:

As you have already learned, it takes some practice to play barre chords cleanly (or at all!) You need to build up the strength in your hand to even play them. Then you have to build up more strength to play them for any period of time.

I found my problem was that I was holding my wrist too low. But it’s different for everyone. If you watch people playing on TV you can see there’s not one accepted way you hold your hand. So just keep practicing and experimenting with position.

I have a pain on the left side on the back of my neck, a sharp pain not muscle pain. What is it?

I hate to go visit the doctor as Im only 17 and its a whole process to get an appointment and then i have to go with a parent. So if its something someone knows that’s no big deal can someone just tell me what the cause of this sharp pain can be.

Chosen Answer:

Check to make sure you do not have an arrow embedded in your neck. That can cause a really sharp pain. If its not that, I haven’t a clue.

Severe muscle pain on the shoulder and hives?

So my boyfriend hurt his upper arm at work (but doesn’t remember how) and it has been hurting him pretty badly. He says its like a pulled muscle X10 and he’s constantly in pain. Its slightly swollen, but not really. But, on the spot where it hurts, there’s a giant rash. We’re thinking maybe its hives from the severe pain, but not too sure. Anyone have any advice? Oh and muscle relaxers help some, but not a whole lot.

How can I ease my muscle pain?

I was at tumbling last night for the first time in a couple of weeks and my muscles weren’t quite used to it so now they really ache! It’s mainly in my core, ankles, areas of my back, and throughout my legs. Are there any home remedies or exercises I can do to ease the pain?
Right after I was done with tumbling my legs felt really sore and wobbly and my whole body felt a little achey.

Chosen Answer:

Try heat – a hot bath, hot shower, hot water bottles, or even those ointments or pads that create heat. That might help.

What can I eat or do to help my thigh muscle pain?

I joined my school’s Cross Country and for the whole summer we’ve gotta run everyday. It’s only been the first week and only 3 days I’ve gone to practice and my back thigh muscles are already soring and in kinda pain. I’m gonna keep on training and running everyday for it, but what can I do or eat to relief some of my sore and pain? My coach said that eating an orange will help the sores, what eles can I eat/do?

Chosen Answer:

You really should rest sore muscles. If you don’t feel like you have the luxury of doing that you need to make sure you drink enough water throughout the day. Muscles are sore from a build up of lactic acid drinking water will help flush that out of your body. You should also massage your thighs before and after you train.

Can an excess of adrenalin cause muscle pain?

When I have a very bad nightmare and I’m terrified and my heart races, sometimes it’s so intense that all my muscles hurt, but I don’t move while sleeping. It stops when I wake up and relax. Is it normal? Can an excess of adrenalin cause muscle pain?
Thanks everybody

Chosen Answer:

How do you know you don’t move if you’re asleep? Having spent some time in a sleep lab I can tell you folks do all sorts of unlikely things. However, even if you are still, epinephrine (the proper name) causes muscles to contract in a “fight or flight” state of readiness-this could very well cause stiffness and soreness.
