is there a statin that does not cause muscle pain?

I took myself off Lipitor after 18 months as I developed muscle pain severe enough to wake me in the night.
Do all statins have this side effect or are there some that don’t?
I do know that ideally it should be my GP
that I ask. However, I live in a rural area and I am stuck with a GP who:
a) examined me for PR bleeding and told me it was “nothing to worry about” 5 days before I had half my cancerous colon removed
b) didn’t monitor my electrolytes balance when I was on diuretics so I spent 2 weeks in a cardiac unit when I collapsed from potassium deficiency
c) spent 3 days telling me my 7 year old son did not have appendicitis, following which I took him to casualty where he
was admitted immediately for perforated appendix.
In these circumstances I want to be as informed as possible BEFORE I see my GP

Chosen Answer:

After reading the write up in the Daily Mail, I have now stopped taking my statin. Mine caused sleeplessness, headaches etc. The Lancet are now saying that statins only benefit men under a certain age and have no benefits at all for women. I am now looking to lower my cholesterol with diet i.e. porridge, almonds, fruit and veg, red wine, garlic and exercise. Also try to grill meats and if you have to use the fryingpan, use a spray oil or olive oil.
I think Doctors are gradually waking up to the fact that statins are being pushed by the big drug companies as they make them milllions each year yet it is being proven that statins do not stop heart attacks and strokes.
Good Luck

I have mid back pain in the muscles that parallel the spine. Dull pain with a very hard muscle.?

My doctor gave me 5mg of cyclobenzaprine which helped but the muscle pain and condition (very hard, with distinct line shape, not a ball or knot) returned. It never really went away it just got smaller. I’ve had this pain for several years and now that I have a child that I need to carry. It’s very unconfortable and slowly wears me out. It’s not a sharp pain but a dull pain that last all day until I’m able to get off my feet and rest my back.

Chosen Answer:

Its the spine curvature problem, when nerves are pulled, muscles on the side become very tight.

so go for manual spine manupulation therapy, carry child will be more taxing on the spine

Can a sore back be something more then muscle pain?

Boyfriend has been having pain that feels like muscle pain for a few weeks now. It turns off and on it seems. Somedays its worse then other days and then it will appear to be getting better then it will be bad again. It’s on the lower right side of his back. Could this be something on the inside besides muscle pain?

Chosen Answer:

Sounds like a probably brain tumor to me.

should i continue working out if muscle pain?

if my muscle felt quite pain because of the workout i did on the day before, should i continue my workout routine?

Chosen Answer:

Yes,

once you start working out, it’ll hurt less.
it’d seem like it’d be the exact opposite and that it’d would make it hurt more, but that’s not the case.
start out walking, then go to jogging.
do some stretches, lunges, etc.
keep your warmup subtle.
then go ahead and do what you’d normally do.

What is the best way to relieve muscle pain by yourself?

I have spent 5 hours digging and my muscles are hurting, i don’t have any money at the moment and would like to fix my back pains, what is the best and quickest way to fix it without spending any money?

Chosen Answer:

Take a hot bath, soaking in the water and relaxing. If your joints ache, try applying ice for 10 minutes on the worst painful spots. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol. If you can take aspirin, take 325mg tablet that will relieve swelling, and reduce pain in your muscles. Rest, but don’t completely shut down, because you should stretch and keep your muscles limber so that they don’t hurt so much later on.

Muscle Pain?

Well, I was swiming today and all of a sudden i had this tightness in my ankle. I felt so bad that i got out the pool and lied down. So I start feeling a little better, so desided to put my foot in the water. Then i moved a certain way to stretch it and it felt like popped it and it got really stiff. So i could walk for about 10 mins. After that i tried to swim again and the other foot started tighting the same way, later my leg tighted up.
Now i just have a mild pain. What could be wrong with it and what could I do?

Chosen Answer:

Hi hunni
Sounds like you might have pulled your tendon, go to A&E to get it checked out, or buy some “TubiGrip” ( elasticated support bandage, in your size of course ) wear it through the day, but NOT to bed as it restricts the blood flow when you are inactive. Try walking on your toes for a few days if you are still in pain, pain relief can be taken, Ibuprofen ( but Not if you suffer from asthma ) paracetamol (if you do suffer from asthma).

Good Luck hunni, i hope your ankle is better soon. X :-)

Protein supplements, muscle pain and possible kidney issue?

I’ve been having muscle pain on the left and right side of my body in the ribcage area underneath my arms (lats) but the pain sometimes shoots into the front of my ribcage too. At first my doctor and I have come to the conclusion that the pain is muscle strain from working out. So I stopped working out about two weeks ago, pain went away, so I started taking protein supplements again 3 days ago but without working out and it seems the pain is starting to come back.

Does this sound like some sort of Kidney issue?

Chosen Answer:

Hard to comment on the protein issue – just watch out for the psychological angle in all this. Psychology can cause ungodly amounts of pain and distress – real pain too. And the pain will come and go without making much sense.

As you get older and older, you begin to realize that one heck of a lot of pain and distress isn’t “real” – it does hurt – but it’s some strange psychological deal the body gets into. You’ll notice that going to the doctor and getting a little reassurance will ‘cure” the pain – but it will come back later….

There’s a Dr. Sarno who wrote one very interesting book about this called “healing backpain” – you can get it for about nothing off of Amazon if you buy it used.

I have never heard of that! But leg pain could be that your growing or possibly your potassium is low, try eating some bananas or something else that contains a lot of potassium.

What can I do to relieve strong muscle pain?

For about 2 months now I’ve been in awful pain with my muscles, I haven’t done anything to bring it on though (no hard exercise etc)
I’m 14 by the way.

Chosen Answer:

you really need to see your doc and have some blood work done. Pain is not normal and it could be so many things. Please see your doc because it may be something different that is causing the muscle pain.God Bless
