How do I reduce muscle pain?

Yesterday, I had six back-to-back lacrosse games with only a ten minute break. My abdominal muscles hurt, the area above my butt hurts (sorry I had to say that) and my hamstrings hurt. I am aware that it’s normal to have pain after working out and things like that, but how do I lessen the pain WITHOUT medication?

Chosen Answer:

The easiest drug free treatment is take a warm (not hot but you may need to add some to keep the water warm)) bathe and just soak since so many areas are involved. After you relax a bit in the tub then you need to get out a couple of ice packs. If you don’t have these then you can make one by putting ice in a ziplock bag placed into another ziplock bag to prevent leakage. Get out the remote and lay back on the couch and find something to watch on tv. Put the ice bag on your tummy. You should have a pillow under your knees to support them and you can place ice to your hamstrings on this. Rest, ice and elevation are the key ingredients to getting better faster. Even though you don’t want medication if you do decide to take some it should be Motrin (unless allergic or other reactions) since Motrin has antiinflammatory effect that other pain meds don’t. Good luck!

can my pharmacist deny my Soma (as needed) if I am already prescribed Valium(Diazepam)?

I live in Pennsylvania and my insurance approved the Valium (Diazepam) 10mg 2 times a day if needed for anxiety. As well as the Soma (Carisoprodol) which is 350mg 3 times a day if needed for muscle spasms. The pharmacist, who already dispensed it made me aware of the interaction between the two, which i was already well aware of, I have been going to this pharmacy for 5 years and never had a problem.
Valium was from PSYCH.
Soma was from PCP (personal care phys)

Chosen Answer:

I’d question these two medications being used at the same time and for 5 years..
Soma alone is banned in some countries – as it potentiates the effect of other medications.and has abuse potential as Diazepam does without question.
Being on both can make it more likely you will have very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms on not taking them.
As people get older, both these medications can need frequent reviews of dosage
Diazepam is already a very efficient muscle relaxant, but if you have been on 20mg for 5 years daily, i’d expect there to be some tolerance and possible addiction.
Does the personal Physician know about the Diazepam and the Psych know about the Carisoprodol, if not I’d run this past them both?

Yes a Pharmacist can refuse to dispense any medication combination that they see or feel could cause problems without giving any explanation than a refusal to dispense, whereas the next Pharmacist may not have an issue with it..
Most will explain in a brief fashion why they have made such a judgement call.though.

It does seem,to me,a strange combination -and the Diazepam to have been prescribed for so long also would make me extra cautious.

What class of drug is carisoprodol (Soma)? Is it something that they would test for in a DUI (drug) urinalysis?

Chosen Answer:

Thank you for this question, it is a very good one. The answer is it depends. Soma, or the generic carisoprodol is a prescription non controlled substance under federal law but in some states such as Texas it is now a schedule IV, the same as Valium. Although there is no urine test that I am aware of, a serum test would be possible, although not practical. Possession of this product without a valid prescription would be illegal. In any case where the state law is more stringent than the federal law the state law is in effect.
