Can I take Prescription medication before a Fluoroscopy?

Im getting a Fluoroscopy done for IBS and and am prescribed (not for the procedure, for years before), Xanax and Soma, (alprazolam and carisoprodol, respectively).

The fluoroscopy prep indicates nothing by mouth for 12 hours before the procedure, and both these medications wear off well before 12 hours, so will it mess up the Fluoroscopy if I take my medicine 45 minutes before the procedure so I will be feeling my anti-anxiety and pain medication and not have to endure the medical procedure in panic and pain? Or should I crush up the pills so they won’t show up on the Fluoroscopy X-ray Machine? Don’t worry both medications are not time released so crushing them up is not dangerous, and I am VERY experienced and tolerant to both anxiety and pain medication

I plan on taking 2mg Xanax with 1050mg Soma 45 minutes before my fluoroscopy tomorrow morning. Both medications have the best bioavailability via the oral route, so other ROA’s aren’t an option.

Anyone with experience with a fluoroscopy, IBS, and hopefully similar situations please share.
Also on a side note, is it too much radiation for this continuous x-ray imaging procedure to be dangerous?

My mother is on alot of drugs all at once, what should I do, and can I force her into rehab?

My mother is on alot of pills. Four are prescribed to her ( Klonopin (clonazepam), Soma (carisoprodol), Ultram (tramadol), buspar), Two are not ( trazodone, valium (diazepam) ), The two she is not prescribed she steals from her job, she works with mentally disabled people. To top it all off, she smokes alot of pot as well, thankfully, she doesn’t drink. I am concerned for her, and the mentally disable people she is supposed to be taking care of, for they are not getting the meds they are suppose to, and she is taking meds that are not meant for her. What are my options here? My boyfriend and I are really at our wits end on what to do to/for her.

Chosen Answer:

she could end up in prison for stealing medication, it needs sorting now. tell her you love her and if she doesnt go to rehab you are turning her into the police. she may loose her job if she is unstable, but its got to be better than prison.

Why did I blackout from my medication?

Yesterday my doctor prescribed me Tramadol 50mg, Carisoprodol (Soma) 200-3mg, But/Apap/Caf (Not sure what this is?) 50/30 mg. & Xanax (Aprazolam) 2mg. This is what the bottles say.
I’m supposed to take them all twice a day.

I took them all for the first time last night and within 30 minutes, I completely blacked out. I sent text messages I dont remember sending, I did a lot of things actually that I dont remember doing. And I passed out before 9pm.

How in the world am I supposed to take them TWICE a day?

Before I was put on these meds, I was taking Xanax 1mg which werent helping, Soma of a lesser dosage, the same but/apap/caf & fiorcet. And none of these medications were really helping me.

What do I do? ):
Thanks for the information. Do you know what exactly could be triggering the black out though? Yes, I’m sure of the directions. Each bottle says “Take 1 tablet by mouth twice a day.”
My doctor gave them to me because I was in a pretty bad accident back in November and I get anxiety attacks, migrains, back & neck pain all the time and it’s constant. Nothing so far has really seemed to be helping too much though, so I figured that’s why he uped my dosage. About the Carisoprodol, I’m not sure then what 200-3 means. They are round and pretty big. One side is almost like a light violet color and the other side is white. They say E 724.

Chosen Answer:

Really? Your Dr. gave you all of those for what? Tramadol is a pain reliever But/apap is too but it is a barbiturate. Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxer that is metabolized as methocarbamol and miltown, both sedatives. There isn’t a 200 or 3mg dose of Soma though, it comes in 250mg and 350mg. Xanax is a benzodiazepine and two mg is a high dose.

You probably blacked out because they are all sedatives, and mixing them is dangerous (hence the blackout). I’d call your Dr or pharmacist and ask them which ones you really need to take. Or take just what you feel is necessary, instead of all of them. Like I said, it is a dangerous mix.

After a Heart Bypass what pain medications are typical when you’re sent home?

I’m a chronic pain patient (I was RUN OVER 32 years ago, not hit, RUN OVER) and legally take hydrocodone, klonopin, and carisoprodol regularly… so my receptors aren’t virgin…. and I really HATE being in pain… so what’s typically prescribed for first round upon discharge… I want to know so I can lobby from a more educated standpoint.

I know for certain heart conditions morphine is typically given since it relaxes the veins… and I’d be cool with that…. but I don’t want to get handed a script for tylenol 4 while being discharged and not notice it’s woefully inadequate until it’s filled
the cut and paste was (not) informative.

getting T3s on discharge after getting my chest cracked open, my heart re-plumped, (after being stopped and later restarted)my chest wired back together, then stitched up is exactly what I want to avoid..

I’m glad I’m seeing my internal medicine guy BEFORE surgery so I can get refills on my vicodins and roxicodones.

Chosen Answer:

it takes at least six months to get rid of the pain, try taking tramadol only, nothing higher than that.

can my pharmacist deny my Soma (as needed) if I am already prescribed Valium(Diazepam)?

I live in Pennsylvania and my insurance approved the Valium (Diazepam) 10mg 2 times a day if needed for anxiety. As well as the Soma (Carisoprodol) which is 350mg 3 times a day if needed for muscle spasms. The pharmacist, who already dispensed it made me aware of the interaction between the two, which i was already well aware of, I have been going to this pharmacy for 5 years and never had a problem.
Valium was from PSYCH.
Soma was from PCP (personal care phys)

Chosen Answer:

I’d question these two medications being used at the same time and for 5 years..
Soma alone is banned in some countries – as it potentiates the effect of other medications.and has abuse potential as Diazepam does without question.
Being on both can make it more likely you will have very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms on not taking them.
As people get older, both these medications can need frequent reviews of dosage
Diazepam is already a very efficient muscle relaxant, but if you have been on 20mg for 5 years daily, i’d expect there to be some tolerance and possible addiction.
Does the personal Physician know about the Diazepam and the Psych know about the Carisoprodol, if not I’d run this past them both?

Yes a Pharmacist can refuse to dispense any medication combination that they see or feel could cause problems without giving any explanation than a refusal to dispense, whereas the next Pharmacist may not have an issue with it..
Most will explain in a brief fashion why they have made such a judgement call.though.

It does seem,to me,a strange combination -and the Diazepam to have been prescribed for so long also would make me extra cautious.

Is more than 4 Soma per day safe?

I was recently prescribed darvocet and Soma for a chronic muscle pain condition. I used to take 4 per day, the max daily recommended dose. But when I saw my doctor he said that if needed I could take up to 6.

I looked online and in the literature and info out there, it says that the max dose per day of Soma [Carisoprodol] is 4.

My muscles really hurt bad and would like to take more if it is safe. But obviously don’t want to kill myself and realize that sometimes doctors mess up. I called the pharmacy and they just say follow your dr’s orders, so not much help.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with soma and if so, if you’ve ever taken or been prescribed more than 4 per day? Or even better, hopefully a nurse or doctor on here if that’s not hoping too much. thanks again everyone. i’ve posted a lot of questions lately and have gotten so many great and helpful answers.
The only reason i am questioning the doctor’s order is because the prescription has been being filled for over a year on refills, so the prescription instructions are the same on the bottle [take 4 a day as needed for pain].

but he verbally told me otherwise. and doctors are human and make mistakes. they are busy and may have made a mistake. i was hoping to hear from someone that has taken it, or knows otherwise.

also, i tried calling the doctor this morning but he is on vacation for 2 weeks.

Chosen Answer:

It is okay to take 6 a day. I have taken that many for a long period of time. I know they have a long half life, they keep building up in your system so you dont want to take any more than that.

What should I expect while taking Soma?

I was recently prescribed carisoprodol (Soma) and I just wanted to know what kind of side effects I can expect from it.

Please don’t tell me the effects from the drug from some website. I can search for it myself. I want to hear from people who have personally taken this drug. Thank you!

Chosen Answer:

I haven’t taken Soma myself but the link below has reviews/comments from several users. Hope it helps.

Does MEPS test for SOMA/carisoprodol?

I’m going to MEPS in a couple of days and was wondering if they tested for SOMA. My recruiter told me that they didn’t even test for benzos so I’m not sure. Anyone with some input I would appreciate it. I took a couple of Somas for my hamstrings….I pulled one running to get in shape and get my weight down. They weren’t prescribed to me so I’m a little worrited about it. I don’t do any other drugs and am clean across the board besides SOMA. Is this going to disqualify me?

Chosen Answer:

if it is a perscription drug and you have a valid perscription and they find it in your pee you will be granted a waiver for the positive test, and no negative actions will result. they’ll give you another drug test before you go off to basic anyway.

Is soma (carisoprodol) addictive?

I’ve been prescribed darvocet and soma for back pain. I have noticed that while the darvocet are nice at times, the soma tends to help more. I mentioned this to my doctor and he said that was good and that most people just want the pain killers and that he’d be happy to prescribe me whatever I need when it came to the Soma.
One thing I have noticed the past couple of days, is that I’ve gotten to a point where i REALLY enjoy the soma. I still only take them when I need to, but I feel like they could possibly be habit forming…are they?

Chosen Answer:

My Nursing Drug Handbook states that the drug can be habit forming and that abrupt withdrawal can cause insomnia, headaches, nausea, or abdominal cramps.
