What can I eat or do to help my thigh muscle pain?

I joined my school’s Cross Country and for the whole summer we’ve gotta run everyday. It’s only been the first week and only 3 days I’ve gone to practice and my back thigh muscles are already soring and in kinda pain. I’m gonna keep on training and running everyday for it, but what can I do or eat to relief some of my sore and pain? My coach said that eating an orange will help the sores, what eles can I eat/do?

Chosen Answer:

You really should rest sore muscles. If you don’t feel like you have the luxury of doing that you need to make sure you drink enough water throughout the day. Muscles are sore from a build up of lactic acid drinking water will help flush that out of your body. You should also massage your thighs before and after you train.

I wore the wrong boots on a shopping trip and now I have muscle pain at the back of my knee?

The pain goes slightly down into my calf. The muscle feels very tight and very painful when I walk, sit etc. I have been icing with no relief. I am looking for possible suggestions to ease and heal the pain and/or suggestions as to what the issue might be. Thank you
The boots have about a 21/2″ square sturdy heel. The muscle feels strained and tight.

What are good herbs for muscle pain relief?

I have a history of back spasms, followed by muscle pain that gets pretty intense. I am in physical therapy, but the pain is unreal. My doctor won’t prescribe me pain medications – and I’m wary of the addictive nature of them, especially for such a long term issue as my back problems. I’d like a natrual route, an herbal mixture I can combine with stretching, excersise, and muscle strengthening.

Some people concentrate their stress in problem areas of their body. Headaches, stomach problems, backaches are the common ones. Whether you think you have stress or not (and we all do), stress management supplements are a good thing to use. B-50 complex, once or twice a day, are the cornerstone of stress reduction.
Valerian is very relaxing, physically and mentally, and can help with stress and back pain. There are several potencies out there, use as directed, but stay on the low dose side until you learn how to use it. Safe, effective, cheap. Medicine cabinet staple.
Building up musculature (especially abdominal muscles) is key to back health.

Can I take carisoprodol (Soma) at work?

I am no way at all interested in abusing drugs, nor do i have any history of drug abuse. I recently had a head injury, visited my doctor, and was prescribed carisoprodol (aka soma) for pain. I really just want relief while at work, but of course don’t want to be loopy and possibly high off it and lose my job. Could I take one soma (350mg) for pain, and still be ok? Or does it mess you up too much and make you loopy? Thanks!

How can I get relief for upper back muscle pain?

It started a few months back, and hasn’t really got any better. I’ve never had an injury before so not sure how to handle it. I get sharp and shooting upper back pain that feels like it is coming from a muscle.

Chosen Answer:

While all these other answers do provide a wealth of information, there is always the chance that you just slept on your back in a strange way, or you just pulled the muscle and it hasn’t had a chance to rest properly. When we sleep is when our bodies heal. If your muscle is inflamed or slightly out of alignment, when you rest it might just not be healing.

A simple step that you can try first, to see if perhaps you need to take a more aggressive approach is to use a night roll, or something similar to help your body sleep in a natural position, which would let your muscles heal. That’s what I did when I pulled muscles in my back playing volleyball. It took a little bit, but eventually it went away. Maybe it’s something can try too.

I put a link to what I’m talking about in the sources section. Hope this helps and that you feel better!

What is the best over the counter pain relief medication for middle back muscle pain?

I started running a drill press and I have to pull on a handle several thousand times a day and have been experiencing middle back muscle pain.

Chosen Answer:

Pain relievers can’t address pain in a particular part of the body, so you can ignore any that make that claim. Any analgesic/anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, or aspirin should work. Try them out to see which one is most effective for you.
