can my pharmacist deny my Soma (as needed) if I am already prescribed Valium(Diazepam)?

I live in Pennsylvania and my insurance approved the Valium (Diazepam) 10mg 2 times a day if needed for anxiety. As well as the Soma (Carisoprodol) which is 350mg 3 times a day if needed for muscle spasms. The pharmacist, who already dispensed it made me aware of the interaction between the two, which i was already well aware of, I have been going to this pharmacy for 5 years and never had a problem.
Valium was from PSYCH.
Soma was from PCP (personal care phys)

Chosen Answer:

I’d question these two medications being used at the same time and for 5 years..
Soma alone is banned in some countries – as it potentiates the effect of other medications.and has abuse potential as Diazepam does without question.
Being on both can make it more likely you will have very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms on not taking them.
As people get older, both these medications can need frequent reviews of dosage
Diazepam is already a very efficient muscle relaxant, but if you have been on 20mg for 5 years daily, i’d expect there to be some tolerance and possible addiction.
Does the personal Physician know about the Diazepam and the Psych know about the Carisoprodol, if not I’d run this past them both?

Yes a Pharmacist can refuse to dispense any medication combination that they see or feel could cause problems without giving any explanation than a refusal to dispense, whereas the next Pharmacist may not have an issue with it..
Most will explain in a brief fashion why they have made such a judgement call.though.

It does seem,to me,a strange combination -and the Diazepam to have been prescribed for so long also would make me extra cautious.

Will Soma show up on a drug test?

My grandma was having really bad back spasms a couple of nights ago, but didn’t want to go to the ER, so she took one of my grandfather’s perscribed Somas
(generic name Carisoprodol ) The next day at work they had a random drug screening. Now she’s worried that it’s going to show up on her test and since she doesn’t have a prescription for it she’ll get in trouble. Does anyone know if one pill of a 300mg Soma would show up on a drug test?

Chosen Answer:

Unless soma is an opiate, then i doubt it will.

drug tests like these are only used for illicit drugs.

PCP
mrijuanna
cocaine
heoine
and other opiates.

and NO, soma is not an opiate. it is a mild muscle relaxant.

she has nothing to worry about.

if for some reason anything was to show up, she can argue it and they will mandate that she have another test taken within a certain period of time. most likely with her doctor.

but tell her not to worry, it looks like nothing serious.

what is carisoprodol?

Chosen Answer:

it is a kick butt muscle relaxer and my drug of choice when I have spasms from arthritis.
i don’t use it often because it makes me feel boneless, which is the whole point I guess.
It is also called Soma and is definitely a narcotic. Most doctors are very reluctant to write much of a prescription for it and I am lucky to get a 4-5 day supply no matter how much I hurt but it works for me very well.

I have extreme and almost constant muscle pain and spasms all over my body why?

I am 23, I work out couple days a week try and eat healthy. I am the mother of three and a full time student. I was not in any accident or did i receive any injury. Yet at least 15 times a day I have completely debilitating muscle spasms and pain. About 100 times a day I get spasms with no pain. Why could this be happening??

carisoprodol for pain?

i was in a motorcycle crash not a bad one but im super sore and awhile back my doctor gave me carisoprodol 350mg for some back pain. i was wondering if it be good to take it just stick with excedrin.

Chosen Answer:

Probably. Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant. If you are not having problems with muscle spasms, etc., you could probably do without it.
Soma, the brand name of your medicine is good for certain muscle pain related issues, but I have a feeling it won’t do much for you in your case, hence bruising, and muscle soreness (not spasms).

Doctors are afraid to offer narcotic pain medicines, because of the very high risk of addiction. I suggest you work with Ibuprofen (Naproxin etc.) or other OTC pain medicine, and as long as you can tolerate the pain, and you are getting good rest, you will be fine..

Carisoprodol and Soma. Anything Like Valium?

I just received a prescription from my doc for Soma to treat multiple muscle spasms in my back, neck and knees. It’s been awhile since I took a muscle relaxant, but I remember Valium was very good for what ailed you. Sort of took care of business and made you walk on air to boot. Should I expect the same from this “Soma” product?

What is the best muscle pain relief medicine?

For severe leg muscle pains, strains and pulls? Bengay, IcyHot, Mineral Ice…. they don’t do anything for the pain. Is there something out there that definitely kills severe muscle pain?

What are good herbs for muscle pain relief?

I have a history of back spasms, followed by muscle pain that gets pretty intense. I am in physical therapy, but the pain is unreal. My doctor won’t prescribe me pain medications – and I’m wary of the addictive nature of them, especially for such a long term issue as my back problems. I’d like a natrual route, an herbal mixture I can combine with stretching, excersise, and muscle strengthening.

Chosen Answer:

Some people concentrate their stress in problem areas of their body. Headaches, stomach problems, backaches are the common ones. Whether you think you have stress or not (and we all do), stress management supplements are a good thing to use. B-50 complex, once or twice a day, are the cornerstone of stress reduction.
Valerian is very relaxing, physically and mentally, and can help with stress and back pain. There are several potencies out there, use as directed, but stay on the low dose side until you learn how to use it. Safe, effective, cheap. Medicine cabinet staple.
Building up musculature (especially abdominal muscles) is key to back health.

Is it safe to take a Soma (Carisoprodol) with my Lunesta?

Hello,
I am prescribed to Lunesta for insomnia and it works great. However I recently came across some Soma muscle relaxers that I take for my muscle spasms. I know how my body reacts to both drugs but i’m just wondering if it is safe to take both at the same time? Thank you!

Chosen Answer:

I checked the drug interaction site, and they didn’t say anything… but to be sure, I would call a pharmacist. Just tell them you are on Lunesta and have a previous prescription for Soma…. they’ll tell you for sure if there is any interactions.
