I need ideas on how to relieve severe muscle pain due to exercise.?

I’ve tried ice packs to no avail and then switched to a heating pad which seems to help a bit more. It feels like my leg muscles are going to rip apart. I work out on a regular basis at the gym and never had this happen before. Have a feeling it was a new Pilates exercise that I tried, called the “Swim”. Can anyone recommend something to use that would help relieve the pain factor?

Chosen Answer:

DO NOT USE HEAT!!! heat feel better because it motivates blood to rush in and out of the injured muscle… when the heat is removed it is no longer leaving the injured area and it causes pooling. after a while the liquid part of the blood leaves and youre left with the plasma, the solid part of blood. in really sever cases it can calcify and you will have bone in your muscle. use ice 20 minutes on 40 minutes off 3 times MINIMUM or it is not any help at all. after the 1st few days if there is no change see a doctor

What Should I Do About This Muscle Pain?

I’ve recently been experiencing some aches and pains in both of my calves while walking and bending which I believe is stemming from the gastrocnemius muscles.

I work in medicine myself and know that the crouching position I often take, which puts strain on my calves, isn’t good but I need to be able to bend down!

Stetching my leg completely straight sends a “dead leg” feeling or small spasm down my calves, especially the right one which is considerably more painful.

Should I see a doctor/what treatment would you recommend? Please advise.

Chosen Answer:

I have gone to see an MD for similar stuff and they usually just prescribe pills (muscle relaxants or steroids) or some good ones might send you to a physical therapist…

On the other hand, if you go see good chiropractor, your problem may be gone as little as one visit.

Either way, it seems like part of the healing process might involve giving yourself a rest from what is causing it.

Muscle cramps are also caused by dehydration. Eating bananas and drinking lots of water might help with this. Supplements like Chromium picolinate, MSM, and hylaluronic acid may also be helpful.

What non-medical things causes muscle pain?

I was just wondering , because I am a teenager, and i have very tender arm muscles, i do work out, but in moderation, and i have been for a long time, but this pain is new. I do go 4-wheeling often , and now that it is winter the ground is solid and it is alot more bumpy. Since it is bumby the handle bars vibrate and bounce alot more, could this be the cause?

Chosen Answer:

I think that is what is kicking your problem up a notch for you, those vibrations can be hell. Here is how you can release the muscles in your back which should help in the upper area for there might be some trapped there that you don’t know about yet:
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.
For your arms below the shoulder press on the muscles that are tender with a good amount of pressure and hold. Now relax your arm and body, let everything go so your arm is very relaxed for this. After 30 seconds slowly raise your arm as high as you can, release the pressure but hold your arm there for another 30 seconds.

Why do I still have lower back pain? Would medical marijuana help me?

I work for a carpet business as an installer helper. The date of my injury was 12/2/2009, me and the guy I was working with had to move a piano with no straps or any sliders. Because our job requires us to move furniture, like a piano. We had to move it from a living room, to a dining room, then into a kitchen and that was the only place the piano would fit. Well we lifted it three times cause it was one heavy son of a gun and on the third time lifting it, I was hunched over the piano because i couldn’t grip right because of the doorway from the dining room to the kitchen was tight. As i lifted it into the kitchen I felt a very sharp and excruciating pain from my lower back and I went to the floor. I couldn’t get up quick, I was very slow getting to my knees and the pain was constant. On the same day, I went to workmans comp and the doctor there told me I strain my Lt SIJ on the left side of my lumbar. I had pain in the middle of my lower back and on the left side, I went to PT (physical therapy) and I received two shots of cortizone in my lower back in the months of December and January. Those shots didn’t help, then he decides to give me an MRI and x-ray, he claims there is nothing wrong and its just back spams and I need to ice/heat my back with skin protection. Well in the month of February the workmans comp doctor referred me to a metro spine and rehab doctor. He looks at the x-rays and MRI and says I have a bulge in my disk and I have arthritis. There I received two more shots of cortizone and the results were nothing, He tells me to go to a different PT and thats where I have been for about two months (March and April). Then he prescribes me the following medication: Nabumetone 500mg, Carisoprodol 350mg, Tramadol 50mg, and Oxaprozin 600mg. None of these work, I only take Tramadol when I go to sleep and the others I stopped taking due to the fact it made me drowzy and I didn’t like falling asleep. I continue to do home exercise and ice my back, I’m under restrictions of No repetitive bending, twisting, lifting, and No lifting loads exceeding 50 pounds. After my last visit which was on tuesday (5-25-2010) he tells me the MRI are negative and he doesn’t konw why I’m still hurting. Under those restrictions I can’t go back to working as a carpet installer and I have to look for another job, which I don’t know who is hiring. On Thursday I was curious about marijuana helping, So I decided to smoke a kush joint and it relieved my back pain and I could bend over without hurting and I can fall asleep more comfortable with it. Can anyone out there or whoever reads this, please give me feedback, because I’m coming more stressful and more depressed due to my back problem and I’m afraid I won’t be here much longer… thank you : – /

What can I do to relieve strong muscle pain?

For about 2 months now I’ve been in awful pain with my muscles, I haven’t done anything to bring it on though (no hard exercise etc)
I’m 14 by the way.

Chosen Answer:

you really need to see your doc and have some blood work done. Pain is not normal and it could be so many things. Please see your doc because it may be something different that is causing the muscle pain.God Bless

Will Soma show up on a drug test?

My grandma was having really bad back spasms a couple of nights ago, but didn’t want to go to the ER, so she took one of my grandfather’s perscribed Somas
(generic name Carisoprodol ) The next day at work they had a random drug screening. Now she’s worried that it’s going to show up on her test and since she doesn’t have a prescription for it she’ll get in trouble. Does anyone know if one pill of a 300mg Soma would show up on a drug test?

Chosen Answer:

Unless soma is an opiate, then i doubt it will.

drug tests like these are only used for illicit drugs.

PCP
mrijuanna
cocaine
heoine
and other opiates.

and NO, soma is not an opiate. it is a mild muscle relaxant.

she has nothing to worry about.

if for some reason anything was to show up, she can argue it and they will mandate that she have another test taken within a certain period of time. most likely with her doctor.

but tell her not to worry, it looks like nothing serious.

Does deep heat stop muscle pain during exercise?

If i rub deep heat into my thighs and calves, will i still feel the muscle pain while i am exercising?

Chosen Answer:

Probably. This is because the pain is probably caused by working out too hard. You should try to keep your heart rate under 180 beats per minute as you work out. This makes sure proper amounts of oxygen get to your muscles, and lowers lactic acid buildup in the muscles, which is what causes the “burning” feeling after working out hard.

Severe muscle pain on the shoulder and hives?

So my boyfriend hurt his upper arm at work (but doesn’t remember how) and it has been hurting him pretty badly. He says its like a pulled muscle X10 and he’s constantly in pain. Its slightly swollen, but not really. But, on the spot where it hurts, there’s a giant rash. We’re thinking maybe its hives from the severe pain, but not too sure. Anyone have any advice? Oh and muscle relaxers help some, but not a whole lot.
